Reaching the GR221
DAY 1
23.03.2022
Flight from Zurich to Palma de Mallorca
We catched our flight from Zurich (Switzerland) to Palma de Mallorca and took a taxi to the city centre, where we spent one night before starting our hike. Here below you can find our choices in terms of accommodation and food.
ACCOMMODATION
We stayed at the hotel ICON Rosetò, a very nice hotel in the old town of Palma.
FOOD
We resupplied at a small supermarket in Palma, where we bought bread, cheese, cold cuts and water for the trail. We then had a lovely dinner at the restaurant Tast, close to our hotel, where we could taste amazing local tapas.
Hiking the GR221
DAY 2 - DAY 10
24.03.2022 - 01.04.2022
The Trail
On the 24th of March, after enjoying a very good breakfast at the hotel, we took a taxi to Port d’Andratx and started our adventure on the GR221. We then spent 9 days on this special trail, crossing the mountain range of the Sierra de Tramuntana. You can find further tips about the GR221 stages in the post OUR STAGES.
On the 1st of April we arrived in Pollença, the official end of the GR221. After spending some time at the bar and waving goodbye to our new trail friends, we headed to Port de Pollença by taxi... our adventure was not over yet.
Visiting Mallorca
DAY 11
02.04.2022
Visiting Formentor
We spent an entire day (two nights) at Port de Pollença. Here below you can find our choices in terms of accommodation, activities and food.
ACCOMMODATIONS
We spent two nights in Port de Pollença at Hoposa Bahìa, a hotel with nice views on the sea.
ACTIVITIES
Our main goal was to go on a day hike at Cap de Formentor, a scenic location with a lighthouse overlooking the sea from impressive cliffs. However, we soon realized that the road was closed to the traffic and the only possible way to reach the lighthouse was by bike. The traffic on this narrow road is restricted in Summer as well, although buses should drive to the Cap de Formentor on a regular basis. We therefore advise to check the road closures and bus schedules beforehand, if you want to pay a visit to this nice location.
In the end, we decided to follow our option B, a day hike to Cala Bòquer… it was more than worth it! It was an easy day hike (1 hour to the beach and 1 hour back to Port de Pollença), but the views were stunning. If you are up to something more adventurous, before starting the descent to the beach, we highly recommend to climb to the top of the ridge on your left… you will not be disappointed!
FOOD
We had a very good dinner at the restaurant of our hotel Hoposa Bahìa, where we tasted amazing fish. However, our go-to spot for coffee was the bar Cappuccino.

Flight from Palma de Mallorca to Zurich
Our trip came to an end. We first drove by taxi from Port de Pollença to Palma de Mallorca, where we catched our flight to Zurich. Our mother-daughter adventure in Mallorca made us fall in love with the island and allowed us to share unforgettable memories on the trail.
