GR131 | FOOD

Here you can find information regarding resupply strategies for water and food along the GR131.

Water along the GR131

There are no options for getting water at rivers or at potable fountains along the trail.
Every evening we filled our bottles with tap water at bars or hotels, and I personally carried 1.5L with me every day, since we hiked this trail in February and the temperatures were not extremely high. Additionally, bottled water can be purchased at every village in shops or bars, so I wouldn’t worry too much about running out of water. However, if you are planning to hike the GR131 in warmer months, or to wildcamp along the trail, make sure you pack enough water for each stage!

Here you can find possible options for a water refill:

Start of stage 1 - La Esperanza: Bar Bonanza

End of stage 2 - Aguamansa: Restaurant Aguamansa

End of stage 3 - El Portillo: Visitor Center

End of stage 4 - Parador: Bar Los Roques

End of stage 5 - Vilaflor: bars and restaurants

End of stage 6 - Arona: bars and restaurants

Food along the GR131

It is possible to resupply in all the villages along the GR131. Moreover, amazing local food can be tasted at the restaurants in the towns.

Our Food Plan

On the GR131, we decided to enjoy the luxury of having dinner and breakfast either at the hotels we were staying, or at a restaurant in the town. For our lunch on the trail, we always managed to prepare and pack our own sandwiches during breakfast.

Here below you can find a list of all the restaurants we had dinner at:

1 - San Cristobal de La Laguna: Restaurant Malaka
This fine dining experience was special! The restaurant is more expensive than average, but serves amazing elegant dishes, mixing Spanish, Chinese and Indian flavors.

2 - La Orotava: Cerveceria Parada
Very good local tapas selection.

3 - Parador: Restaurant Parador
Good dinner at the hotel.

4 - Parador: Restaurant Parador
Good dinner at the hotel.

5 - Vilaflor: Restaurant La Vendimia
Amazing dinner at the hotel, we highly recommend the Arroz Negro!

6 - Arona —> Adeje: Restaurant Casa Juan
This was my favorite restaurant of the trip, located in the town of Adeje… the environment was very simple and friendly, and the food was fresh and local. We highly recommend to try the parillada de pescado y marisco!
