Sentiero Alpino Calanca | FOOD

Here you can find information regarding resupply strategies for water and food along the Sentiero Alpino Calanca.

Water along the trail

We started hiking every morning with 2L water in our backpacks. The bottles can be refilled without worries from the clean sources provided at every hut. Moreover, water can also be collected from alpine rivers. Usually there is no need to worry, but I anyway advise to filter it, as you’ll never know what happened in the stream up in the mountains.

Food along the trail

The only hut on the trail offering dinner, breakfast and a picknick upon request for the next day is Capanna Buffalora (end of stage no. 2). For this reason, provided that you follow the official stages, make sure you pack enough food, including:

  • 1 breakfast (for the second hiking day, provided that on your first hiking day you’ll have breakfast at your accommodation)

  • 3 lunches (for the first, the second and the third hiking day, provided that you’ll not purchase the picknick option at Capanna Buffalora)

  • 1 dinner (for the first hiking day, provided that you’ll pay for dinner at Capanna Buffalora and that you’ll leave the trail on your third day)

  • snacks and protein bars

Our Food Plan

We packed our food exactly as described above:

  • 1 breakfast: protein bars

  • 3 lunches: bread, cheese, cold cuts, and a lot of mayo of course

  • 1 dinner: risotto (arborio rice, sausage, porcini mushrooms, onions, butter, broth cubes, white whine, parmesan cheese)

  • snacks and protein bars
