Laugavegur | ACCOMMODATION

Here you’ll find information about the accommodation options on the Laugavegur Trail.

You can find more details about the accommodation we chose before and after the hike in the post OUR TRIP.

Logistics

Facilities

The huts along the Laugavegur Trail are located in remote and stunning areas and offer basic accommodation, meaning communal sleeping rooms equipped with bunk beds and mattresses. When sleeping at the huts, you’ll anyway need to bring your own sleeping bag, as there are no blankets or bed sheets available.

All the huts provide:

  • A communal kitchen space equipped with gas stoves, cookware, and sinks.
The kitchen can be used only by hikers who are sleeping inside the hut.

  • Toilets (flush toilets with toilet paper and hand soap in the bigger huts, latrines in the smaller ones).
The toilets can be used by all hikers.

  • Warm showers for an additional fee.
The showers can be used by all hikers.

  • A camping ground, for hikers to pitch their tent for a fee.

Booking and Capacity

If you want to sleep inside the huts along the Laugavegur, you’ll need to book them far ahead of time. We checked in February for August, and all the huts were already fully booked for the whole summer 2023! However, if you plan to camp at the huts with your tent, advance reservations are not needed.

  • FÍ Huts: here you can fill a form and book your stay at the FÍ huts on trail.

  • Volcano Huts: here you can book your stay at the Volcano Huts in Þórsmörk.

  • Básar Hut: here you can book your stay in a hut at the Básar camping ground in Þórsmörk.

Food and Water

The huts on the Laugavegur do not serve warm meals, but have a small shop providing snacks, drinks and dried trekking food. However, the choice of food in the shops is very poor. It is therefore recommended that hikers carry their own food for the whole trail.

There is plenty of water along the Laugavegur. Clean water is indeed available at every hut and in streams and rivers on the trail.

Electricity

Although the huts are heated, you need to bear in mind that electricity is not present. You’ll therefore need a power bank to charge your electronics!

Leave No Trace Principle

Please make sure to respect the nature you are visiting by picking up and carrying your own trash until the end of the hike… the trail and the hut wardens will thank you!
