Flight from Zurich to Tenerife
We catched our flight from Zurich (Switzerland) to Tenerife (South airport) and took a taxi to San Cristóbal de la Laguna, where we spent one night before starting our hike. Here below you can find our choices in terms of accommodation and food.
ACCOMMODATION
We stayed at La Laguna Gran Hotel, a very nice hotel in the old town.
FOOD
We resupplied at a small supermarket in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, where we bought snacks and water for the trail. We then enjoyed a lovely dinner at a small restaurant, La Tasca de Los Patos, which serves amazing local dishes.
Hiking the GR131
DAY 2 - DAY 7
12.02.2023 - 17.02.2023
The Trail
On the 12th of February, after enjoying a very good breakfast at the hotel, we took a taxi to La Esperanza and started our adventure on the GR131. We then spent 6 days on this amazing trail, crossing magical pine tree forests, scenic volcanic grounds and lunar landscapes. You can find further information about the GR131 stages in the post OUR STAGES.
On the 17th of February we arrived in Arona, the official end of the GR131 in Tenerife. Since our mom Gio’ injured her knee and had to skip the last stage, she headed to the South airport by taxi and hired a car for driving us around the next day… our adventure was not over yet.
Visiting Tenerife
DAY 8
18.02.2023
Visiting Rural de Teno Park
We spent an entire day (two nights) at Arona. Here below you can find our choices in terms of accommodation, activities and food.
ACCOMMODATIONS
We spent two nights in Arona at Casa Rural Arona, a quiet hotel with a nice garden and amazing breakfasts.
ACTIVITIES
For our last day in Tenerife, we decided to hire a car and go on a little road trip and visit the Parque Rural de Teno.
We stopped for a 2 hours day hike around the youngest Volcano of the island, the Chinyero Volcano Loop. This is an easy hike that still allows to enjoy special volcanic landscapes.
We then decided to drive to Masca, through a narrow mountain road with epic views. It was a bit hard to find a parking spot above the small charming village of Masca, but we just advise to be patient and wait for the first tourists to leave.
FOOD
We had two very good dinners at the restaurant Casa Juan in Adeje, where we tasted amazing fish and local food.
Coming Home

Flight from Tenerife to Zurich
Our trip came to an end. We first drove by car from Arona to the South Airport, where we catched our flight to Zurich. Our mother-daughters adventure in Tenerife allowed us to share unforgettable memories on a very special trail.
